PCC-1 flange assembly QC checklist

Looking for a field-ready QC checklist aligned to ASME PCC-1 (2019) that fitters can use during flange makeup, including calculated bolt load targets, K-factor assumptions, and hold points for initial, intermediate, and final passes. I’m standardizing inspection on 24" Class 300 flanges with hydraulic tensioners and need a template that enforces gasket ID/heat traceability and signed torque/tension records.

One thing I add to our PCC-1 checklist on 24" Class 300 flanges with hydraulic tensioners is a hold point to “photo the gasket heat/ID with the flange face in frame” before the initial pass; it’s quick and has saved us rework more than once. If you’re listing a K-factor, I mark it “N/A — tensioning” and validate the load by measuring elongation on one witness stud the first time that setup runs.

On 24" Class 300 with hydraulic tensioners, I add a sentinel check: USM one stud on the first pass to verify the jack pressure gives the calculated elongation; if it’s off by >5%, we stop and correct the pressure table… Along with @kendra_m58’s photo step, the checklist has “record lube type/lot and stud condition” and a 15‑min dwell then re‑pass to catch embedment. We also hold a pre‑tension gap check at 12/3/6/9 so the faces are within about 0.5 mm before pressurizing.

It’s frustrating how often we overlook gasket heat traceability. I always mention validating the gasket specs during initial inspection, and I’ve found it saves a ton of trouble down the line. For my templates, I’ve included a reminder to double-check that heat trace data against what’s listed in the specs; it can really make a difference when you’re under pressure in the field.
