Do a 60-second ‘explain before you cut’ pit stop: they show the pi tape read, state C-to-C, 45° travel (1.414×offset), the take-off, and point where the center head lands on both pieces — no one cuts ‘on vibes.’ I seed one wrong take-off in the stack; if they catch it, they cut, if not it’s back to the sketch, and the timer keeps pace. Would a quick board line — ‘this mark exists because.’ — fit your 90?
I run a quick ‘call your shot’ like pool before cuts: they sketch a tiny soapstone map on the pipe, label zero and the 45 bisect, say what each line means and where the center head lands, then a partner has to echo it. If someone stalls, I have them purposely mark the wrong side and explain the error to me — it snaps them out of mirroring; want the one-page prompt sheet?
