Safe, efficient 6-inch staging

On a shutdown last week, we set three 6-inch carbon steel spools using two 1-ton chain falls and four V-head stands, and cut install time by about 45 minutes by pre-marking centerlines and staging gaskets and bolts by heat. We stayed strict on safety with tag lines on both ends, a dedicated spotter on pinch points, and LOTO verified; what else are you doing to move faster without bending the rules, especially keeping fit-up square when the floor’s out of level?

But > else are you doing to move faster without bending the rules, especially keeping fit-up square when the floor’s out of I carry a marked story stick for the line CL and preset each V-head to it, then drop two 5/8" bull pins in the mate flange so the face and bolt circle stay true as we ease in; if the slab’s way off, we hang from beam clamps and just kiss the stands to keep square.

Fighting the roll on 6-inch drives me nuts, so we pre-mark COG/pick points on the spools and run a short spreader bar between the two 1-ton chain falls; once it’s hovering, two tapered lineup pins go in as “dummy bolts” and the rest of the stud packs go by heat… Adds a minute to rigging but usually nets more than your 45 and keeps hands out of the pinch, and @lucasjenkins87’s CL stick pairs well with it for quick squaring.
